Hey guys,

today i repotted my two VFT's and they are looking nice.

However, I just Maryland is going through some thunderstorms...

which is good b/c i get all that rain water, but should i leave my plants outside because i am not sure how low the temperature may drop, and also its going to be cloudy for the next couple of days.

Should i take them in during the night when its colder, and put it out in the morning?

basically i just dont know if temperatures around 45-50 are potentially dangerous to my VFTs.

Thanks,

Matt

Okay, cool,

how long can VFT's go without proper sunlight?

i just got them yesterday, and they have been kept from sunlight for a while now, since they were in a box during shipping.

Thanks again Adam!

Okay, there usually wont be a whole week of no sun, but just in case, what are man-produced lights that the VFT's can use?

just a regular lightbulb or is there a special type?

you need compact fluorescent. The regular ones produce too much heat and not enough light. With the cfls you can bring the plant nice and close like 4-6". But the best is a south facing window. 4 hours of direct sunlight is what it needs as a minimum. I have a 40 Watt CFL which is very bright. I only use it on pullings and seedlings during winter.

I have plenty of deer in my area, and they always seem to be eating my mom's plants  , but I've never had a problem with them eating any carnivorous plants, possibly because they make that smell that attracts flies
