Hi, I was wondering if there’s a specific variety of Pinguicula that is known to be more effective in capturing prey. I have a bunch of pings and I want to put some in my greenhouse which is infested with whiteflies and fungus gnats. I put my cyclosecta, pirroutte, gigantea, ehlersiae, gypsicola, and laueana x Emarginata in the greenhouse for a day and none of them caught a thing! (Cyclosecta caught 1 tiny whitefly) I don’t blame gigantea because it had been recently injured since I dropped it and fell out of its pot.
I put my binata at the same time as the pings and binata slaughtered a lot. I took a closer look at the pings and I was able to see a fungus gnat land on them and then just mock me and walk around and then fly away.
Are there any varieties that are EXTREMELY effective in capturing? Also, what do you think the problem is with my pings not being able to capture? I’ll attach photos tomorrow. They are growing in a windowsill with all my other CPs so light isn’t an issue, they are in peat/perlite/vermiculite mix and they are kept pretty moist since they are supposed to be in carnivorous state. They aren’t dormant because they arrived in mid February from Rainbow CPs.
All help appreciated, thanks so much!
