He's probably talking about Drosera tokaiensis. You can read lots of information about this naturally occurring hybrid here.

I've been trying to research common names for this species; I've found "Tokai Sundew" used on a single facebook post and then "Tolkien's Sundew" used exclusively by Copper2 in this forum with no explanation of its origin haha. Considering it's such a popular species I'm surprised nothing is more established!
I have zero clue where Copper2's "Tolkien's Sundew" came from. I don't recall any Drosera references in The Hobbit... :lol: . Common names are next to useless anyways, and I guess tokaiensis usually gets lumped into "spoon-leaved sundew" with spatulata frequently.
