And along came a spider... and sat down beside her...

And the Venus Flytrap Ate them both... THE END.

Good Night Kids.

I was doing some gardening earlier today and found a huge spider. It was not a wolf spider but was definitely a ground dwelling spider. The Green Dragon ate him up quite nicely :D

Yes this time I did feed a VFT

Adam,
Be careful not to disturb Vancouver's ecosystem when you're doing stuff like that :P

There is one thing in life i am genuinely terrified of...and that my friend, is spiders. I have gotten better over the years, but they absolutely scare the $%@& out of me still. Feed your plants all the spiders you can!!!

I've seen jumping spiders patrolling the Flytraps when they see a dried husk of an already digested fly still inside a trap, then jump on it apparently thinking it is a real fly, only to trigger the trap which then snaps shut with the spider inside. I like jumping spiders, so occasionally if I notice it I'll pry the trap open, let the spider out and take it outside where it's less dangerous. :)

I too have seen lots of jumping spiders on my traps. They are awesome little dudes. I don't know if this is a jumping spider or not (most of the ones I see are usually grey or black), but check out this situation that I came across one day when I was out in the hills looking for stuff to take photos of with my macro lens:

I'm guessing that the spider waited for the bee to come to the flower and ambushed it. They must be pretty strong dudes to be able to take down an insect twice their size.

Wow! Yeah. People don't give animals, insects (and even plants like our beloved Venus Flytraps, I guess) enough credit for smarts! A spider apparently making a carefully calculated ambush. :D

I wonder if this little guy I found in one of our King Lamoni daylilies is the same or related species of spider as in your great macro? I wonder if this genus or species makes a habit of laying in wait in flowers for unsuspecting insects? :o
