Hey, all. I bought a couple of these minis last year when they looked like a possible Purp hybrid. The pitchers were splayed out and lying in a sort-of flat rosette with wide-open hoods. All of the new pitchers last year were same; short with open hoods.
This year the growth looks very different, with straight pitchers and smaller hoods. I know it's early days but does anyone have some insight as to what this might be? TIA

I think that may be S. 'Maroon', but it's too early to be sure. Nice little find. Do you know where you got these?

They were at the Trader Joe's in my town. I was in there just this morning and they're back. $9.99 each.

Wow! I'll check out Trader Joe's when I can! I have checked before, but never find anything interesting. They had decently healthy flytraps once though.

We need pictures of mature pitchers to try to ID the plant, or at least to make some educated guesses about the plant's parentage.

Yeah, these are just the first ones up this year. It'll take several weeks to get to some decent size and show some other features to do a better ID. More to come...

Picked one up today. Fresh shipment. These are pretty impressive compared to other places I’ve seen these.

Now that I think of it, the hybrid could very likely be S. ‘Catesbai’

Looks like a Sarracenia x Maroon (purpurea x rubra hybrid) to me.

I looked up Sarr x Maroon (and the others mentioned above) and there are a lot of similarities, but it's still too early to make the call imo. My experience is limited...

Hi all. One the pitchers popped it's hood, so we might be able to get a better idea what this is. Not sure if this a "mature" pitcher at this point as some of the others are larger. It has some of the features of the original plant but the pitchers are more erect rather than bent over. I'm considering pruning the newer pitchers so it doesn't overcrowd itself and turn into a sea urchin. Definitely getting divided next spring.

I don't recommend this course of action. Your Sarracenia will not be happy about it.

This was just a thought, and I'm glad that you straightened me me out.
