I found some way better pots for medium to adult CPs than any other time I have looked, but I have a couple questions after I get input on these pots specifically for seed planting -

https://a.co/d/1HDudIm

I checked and the little ai duder said I can drill drainage holes and that’s supposedly a yupper.

I will be trying to plant 90 VFT seeds in a few days, and I’m not sure how far apart they have to be or if I need to go wider than a 12” pot? I know 5” is deep for seeds, but I figured that gives the pot a little more time before I need to get them into 6” deep. If I’m wrong feel free to correct me.

I could also take the 10” wide by (I think)3.5” deep. I will obviously make sure I have suitably large trays. I believe there should be some in my garage. I will check the measurements, but if not I’ll buy a couple. I just also wasn’t sure if I should get 3 of the above for the VFT seeds or 2? I’m not used to planting stuff.

I also have a pack of Sarr seeds and some Drosera Intermedia seeds I got from the seed bank coming out of cold strat on the 27th of this month. I have a few extra questions about those, but I’m not sure how many seeds are in a pack, and I’m not sure if I should try to find a few different types of pots or use these same ones and buy more?

I’m probably gonna leave the cold strat in til next month so I can afford the extra pots. I was trying to not spend this month, but I got offers I couldn’t refuse.

I just noticed the warning that it’s a frequently returned item, but it seems like it’s got great reviews, so I’m not sure what they determine to be “frequently”.

So if anyone else knows stuff to buy without breaking the bank that’d be great. Gonna try to get to Home Depot on Friday, but if I can’t get a ride that day or something I won’t be able to buy there hence the Amazon search. But if y’all have HD recommendations please post them.

Lowe’s is probably out unfortunately depending on how much I spend because they’re building a roundabout that we don’t need that’s basically turning all traffic into impossible lines of cars and Lowe’s is right next to it so unless I hit the delivery expense (which I’m hoping not to honestly), that store is out. I guess post em anyhow. For future possible buy, but not this one unless again it hits delivery price. I think $30 min or something close.

List of available pots/trays

My mom showed me even more pots (actually probably more considered trays) that would be available for me to use and drill drainage holes for the ones that need it. So next question is would any of these work? (Sorry I keep finding stuff to add to this post)

Those pots would work fine for seeds or larger plants. Keep in mind the shorter the pot the less water you will use in the tray as to not over saturate the soil. Which means more frequent watering. Also consider when/how often you plan to repot. Personally, I prefer 9-10 tall pots for seeds and mature plants. The water saturation in the soil is much more stable, no crown rot, less watering, and you don't have to repot as often; with seedlings spaced out, maybe not at all for a long time. In short, any pot will work but how much water monitoring and future repots are you prepared to deal with.

Heres a 7"x7"9" pot with about 40 one month old seedlings. Spaced about an inch apart. Standing in 2" of water and need topping off every ten days or so. This way I wont have to repot for a year or two if I don't want to.

Hmm yeah I don’t have any pots that large. I have been working over time to get the things I need, but I thought I was just doing 1 packet of Drosera Intermedia and 1 packet of Sarracenia Flava. The VFT seeds were a great deal I didn’t expect. I need to figure out if I should do trays or buy pots.

I check water on my outdoor plants about once an hour. At the outside 2 hours. I like the extra time with my plants.

I wasn’t sure how long the roots grew as seedlings.

I was also thinking about co-opting some Tupperware.

Seedling roots won't outgrow anything you've considered so far. I would use pots over the trays. The more media you have(larger pot, etc.), the more stable root temps are as well. This can be a big factor in growth.

Would you think Tupperware would work? I’m looking for good pots, and I still might try 2 or…3? I’ll start with two and see how it goes with the first pot I linked in OP, but I was also looking at the Tupperware stuff because it seems like it has good dimensions, is durable, and can handle getting drainage holes drilled. Most importantly it’s affordable.

I’m just wondering why so many people apparently returned that first pot, but I think I’ll roll the dice and get it.

This is the Tupperware I was looking at

I might need more of them, but they always come in sets. I’m kinda torn between the pots and these.

Tupperware would work well with drainage holes put in. And you can find them cheaper than the one you linked at dollar stores or walmart without special lids and probably larger too.

Hey thanks for all the advice. I’ll definitely look at Walmart first and if I can’t find a few suitable ones there I have a Dollar Store down the street.

Most people here know I ask a lot of questions, like A LOT, but I like to have really specific ideas for things I haven’t done before. I’m excited to try growing from seeds. :D
