It is growing new pitchers, so is responding to the conditions. That hookey thing is the pitcher coming out of a growth point. A growth point is just a swelling or protrusion on the rhizome that then produces new leaves.
If its getting 12 hours of direct sunlight it should be OK, just keep it stood in water and it will do as it it is doing responding to the conditions.

Yup I always keep it in a tray of water so thank you very much for helping me with what a growth point actually looks like and the reassurance that it’s making progress. I’m very excited about this. It’s my only Sarr right now because I didn’t want to get another one if it ended up having trouble. I try not to get new stuff until I’m more comfortable with the plant.

Like since my VFTs are still little but putting out new traps like crazy and all but one have some pink at least in the trap I just decided I could get more. That and I have picked up a lot of info on what’s good and bad and what to keep an eye on from here.

And since my Sarr is showing good signs I’m very happy, and I’ll plant the seeds I got from seed bank when it comes out of cold strat, but I don’t want to buy any divisions or adults yet so I can still keep better track of this one. But I’m quite pleased those are pitchers in waiting :D I thought I read spring and fall were when new pitchers grew, but either I read it wrong or I guess maybe that’s if it didn’t already grow them.

Actually it’s indirect sunlight now. I thought it got a couple more hours. It’s west facing mostly. The south facing part of my house doesn’t really have room and isn’t easily accessible. I’m going to post some photos of my VFTs from Lowe’s later to show how they’re doing, so if I get anyone mentioning light starvation (which I feel like I shouldn’t), I’ll have to think about how I could even fix that with my current setup. It seems like it’s probably closer to 8-9 hours of direct sunlight. Hopefully that’s enough for my plants.

I usually read “at least 6 hours of direct sun” which I interpreted to mean that it was the base minimum to be acceptable health wise, but 10-12 hours is best practice. I’m right in the middle basically.

As long as it is unfiltered light (read no windows) you will be fine.

I just realized (going to try to get a pic tomorrow) that all the red ones grow out of something else. Not directly out of the rhizome? Like 2 seem to be coming out of old leaves and split them open at the bottom, and one new red one is splitting through a couple green hooks which I think are starting to get red on top themselves. It looks like the green ones came from the bottom of the rhizome, but the rest fr seem to come from leaves. I hope that’s not a bad thing because it’s kinda need to have new growth directly from old.

Where the new pitchers are coming from are the growth points on the rhizome, that is their natural growth habit, so no it isnt bad.

It’s not hard to see unless you zoom in but the tip of that is just a wee bit open now! It looks like it’s getting ready to turn into a pitcher. I’m gonna make my mom take pictures this weekend cuz I’m not gonna be home, and I super don’t want to miss anything that happens. My first time seeing this. :D
