As a retired electrician, I'd suggest that if you want to steal copper, you should probably start at the bottom of your meter socket and work your way down.
The service drop from your local power company does tend to generate a big flash and bang when cut as shown in the photo.
Using a non-contact voltage detector will also let you know if your service lateral is still hot after they pull the meter.
The police were probably told to be on the lookout for anyone walking around with eyebrows recently burned off.

Looking at the photo again I see that the lower entrance cable had already been cut...seems the guy/gal must of gotten a little greedy...or an idiot came along and decided to settle for sloppy seconds. :lol:

I like your DANGER sign, Mike. Most people don't think they'll "die", but "hurting" is definitely in their realm of reasoning.

Btw, the genius that did this is probably an elected official in at least a state-level position now. He probably attributes the bad tic and the scars on his face and the bad tremor in his hands to a battle wound he got while running black ops in the '90s...not to mention his need to wear Depends 24/7. :roll: :mrgreen:
