Pushing out a flower stalk for the first time. Seeds were germinated around this time last year. Individual leaves are around 8 inches in length, and the plant is about 14-15 inches in diameter.

Wow, that's a Cape? I've never seen anything like that before. Even at their peak growth mine never got more than about 6"-8" in diameter.
That's beautiful!

It's not one of the official "Giant" forms, but it was the result of crossing my big "Red" and "Wide Leaf".

My cape is being evil. It died back when I did I repot after an algae infestation. It is just now starting to blow up with growth again. It pouted for about a month and a half, now it’s resuming, hopefully. I don’t have a single leaf on it again, it is getting good light, it has a tray. It looked good before now it is just starting to pop out some growth. I also have some old deformed leaves, that got burned by the sun that I put in water, I am seeing little bumps all over them, I am going to have a lot of capes by this summer.

I don’t hate capes, especially when they are the easiest, most forgiving quick growing sundew there is and I have a ton of fruit flies from my compost bucket. I also have a ton of fungus gnats too, that plant would slay them until it was getting too much algae, the water is still clean, and the sun is very bright, considering that it is in a south facing window, I am just hoping it gets back up and saves me from these annoying little flies.

I would say any carnivorous plant from another continent can have its ups and downs, yours looks amazing. I also have a bloom on mine, I am hoping for seeds, tons of them. I have had my cape for 3 years now. It still can be hard headed just like me and prove that it can be a stump, or it can be full of leaves. I wish I could understand my plants, but we can only guess.

I get algae here too, sometimes. The plants don't mind. It can usually be prevented by rinsing the soil. If it has already started growing, spraying some 3% hydrogen peroxide will kill it. Just a little bit, don't soak the soil with it.

Capes are known to grow well then crash and burn and then come back growing healthily. It happens here sometimes, because of the changing seasons that are vastly different.

Another 1 year old cape. This time a mini one- about 3.5 inches in diameter. D. capensis 'Mini Red' from the seed bank.

Wow! You have a knack for growing huge sundews! If you ever decide to let go of some seeds from that or another monster, I’d be interested.

Keep up the good work!

Update on the plant in the first post. It has formed a flowerstalk about 2 feet in length (longest flower stalk I have seen so far).
The second flower opened today, and is decently sized. About 1.31 inches or so. ;)

I would really be interested in getting some seeds from you. Those capes are just beautiful, I’ll post pictures in the posts of the plants once they are large enough to post about.

I'm sorry, but I don't have any seeds left. I sent the seeds I got to the seed bank last week. Hopefully they'll be available this coming month.
So in short, if you want seeds, you'll probably have to get them from the seed bank.

If you (or anyone else) does end up getting seeds from the bank, I would certainly love to see updates.
