This plant was shipped about two and a half months ago and over the past few weeks it has gone through a growth spurt. What would the clue be when it has outgrown its pot?

I go by how often i have to water. More plant uses more water, more media holds more water. When i have a issue keeping up i trim or go to a larger pot.
