So you're growing that outside from the looks of things? See starts of those at orchid shows now and then. Folks will get all excited about growing their own vanilla beans until they find out how difficult the plants can be to grow and successfully pollinate. Then there is the very time intensive process for preparing the beans.

May have also come in a media that was not favorable to his growing conditions or the growing conditions he provided may have not been sufficient. (Although orchids commonly available are typically quite adaptable and durable.)
