Hey all!

So after 1.5 years of trawling the Cape for sundews, I have seen most of the species found here (and some new ones!). So, why not share the love.

Throw me any questions about the natural habits of some of our favourite plants! These include Drosera capensis, aliciae, admirabilis, slackii etc!

Will answer what I can :D

Well, that depends greatly! I only see D capensis, admirabilis, rubrifolia, and slackii exclusively in super peaty, perennially wet areas. There are wide gradients of soil and moisture (many grow quite dry!) which is why I think many species like cuneifolia that can grow on mildly damp slopes do well in deep pots with shallow water, however they sometimes do great in wetter situations in-situ and in cultivation.

I would say in general the habitats are quite sandy, and cape soils are generally nutrient poor to boot :)
