Anyone use silica gravel as a topper for their CPs? I have been using it on Cephalotus, and a few outdoor Sarracenia. Seems to help keep those pesky robins from pulling peat for nesting material. Anyone try it on VFTs?Image

I know people who put a top layer of silica sand on their flytrap pots, and the plants are fine with it. It also discourages soil gnats in addition to birds.

I use fine silica sand as a large portion of my substrate for Drosera, and as a topping for my winter growing plants. Wonderful stuff.
