The topic sounds a little weird, but I was just wondering, how do Venus Flytraps make more of themselves? I mean how do they duplicate or form off shoots, and when does this happen or what types of conditions does the plant have to be in for this to happen? I have heard of many people saying " I only bought one, and then it grew into four", so how does this happen? :)

Thanks,

Max

Most of the happy plants (enough light, water and the right soil) seem to do it spontaneously. Perhaps it's an overflow of energy in the rhizome?

In a perfect condition, plants trigger their natural PGRs like Auxins and Cytokins. There PGRs are responsible for their divisions of either shoots, rhizomes or from the roots.

Just for your information: PGR = Plant Growth Regulator (a kind of plant hormones)

So do you think that it takes over a year for one plant to make an off shoot?

Yes definitely.
Unless you have a plant that's already been making an off shoot slowly. Then it might be ready next year.

When dividing a VFT this way, you have to uproot the plant and identify at least two 'grow points'.
In order to divide them successfully, wait until both growing points have their own root system. Otherwise, wait another year before dividing them.
