I won some utricularia Sandersonii in one of ChefDean’s whiz bang contests. I ended up planting it in live sphagnum moss and have kept a high water level in its dish. It is alive and apparently growing but I have no flower stalks yet. It’s been a couple of months since I planted it. I see runners crisscrossing the moss. Is it simply getting settled in still? Should I change how I’m growing it?

Mine took awhile to really get going- like months- but once it sent up the first flower there has been no stop. If you are seeing growth then it sounds like it just needs time.
I’ll be interested to hear what others have to say since I have other terrestrial utrics that won’t do anything for me

I wish I had some advice for you. I a great at growing utricularia. Not so great at getting it to flower. As a matter of fact, the only utrics I've had flower were some volunteers that found their way into my daughter's container bog garden.

My sandersonii flowers only when it is in perfect conditions. If it dried out: all flowers die. If it gets too hot: all flowers die. If the humidity is too low: all flowers die. It only holds them for me for a week or so too. If I had to guess, it's just establishing itself. I gave a tiny division to a neighbor and hers hasn't done anything yet. But she also has it in lower light.

I'd just give the best conditions you possibly can and wait

Sometimes if you give them a lot of light that will prompt them to put on a show. It's worth a shot.

My only other experience with utricularia is with U. Subulata...it volunteered in a pot of D. intermedia and became a forest!

I'm going to "let it ride" for a while. It's got good water and live sphagnum and hopefully good light...I've got some capillaris and filiformis leaf cuttings doing well under the same light. I might raise it a bit to make the light more intense. We'll see. So, as for as how it looks...I guess its holding its own with a little growth showing (the runners tell me that it's spreading some).
