I find the growth of pitcher just a fascinating thing ,to watch the plant develop a pitcher from start to finish, is just one of nature wonders,
thats exactly what i love about my VFT's and Sarr's.
watching the new growth from a little bump into a full pitcher or trap over a week or two

thanks for sharing the pics, especially the way your showing the growth in regular measured stages.

ok new update on the pitcher size 14 july and still growing , the adult pitcher formed and matured in late 09 and is 360 mm long or so ,so the new pitcher looks like its going to exceed that but quite a bit I hope

the lid is part way open now , once the lip is fully open the pitcher will firm up and expand to its full size and colour up as well usually it expands x 1 not double, will be interesting to see as its winter now and growth has been slowed quite a lot may be this will not be as big as I hoped !!

Hi Corky o yes they expand a lot , but mainly the lower pitchers, some can expand all most double the lid opening size for sure ,just depends on the spices too !! the upper no quite so much !

Hi Corky no problem if I can help in any way I am happy too, I am not a expert but have had a fair amount of experience :D
Not all neps will produce Basel's early , some will some dont , not sure why ?? may be its the temp or sun , who knows ?? any how you can help induce Basel in one way , this is to have the main stem growing on a angel of more than 50 degrees down ,or close ! dose not need to be a specific angel , just found it better with a greater angel ! for some reason this helps produce Basel shoots with out cutting the main stem , , I think its called apical dominance !! in other words if the main stem is as low or lower than the root ball it helps produce a Basel shoot, But and I must stress !! not all ways ok !! , I do know if your plants main stem is strait up the Basel's do no not come as readily , there are a lot of different opinions about this , this is just what i have found with my 370+ Nep plants I have, but not all are adult plants either about 3/4 are though !!you will find that at a certain stage the adult plant will have a massive growth spurt on the main stem and will grow up to a meter or more in good conditions in one grow season, this varies from plant to plant , , this is when you will get the upper pitchers ,and the tendrils move to the back of the pitcher ,you find the lower pitchers the tendrils are at the front or the pitcher then the side, then at the back of the pitcher as it gets higher up the stem ! these are the upper pitcher's, and the tendrils will form curls in its tendril length as well, this is a good indicator of upper pitchers too
hope that helps a bit let me know if you need any more info or clarification

cheers

how it has changed, this up date taken on 19 Aug 2010 it still has some growing to do ,has slowed because of our cold weather , if it warms up soon it will expand a lot more ,so potentially it could expand x1 of its self if you go back to start of this thread you can see its full progress up to today
