Ok, 7 days in. It looks like they're a lot happier having started with water germination, at least for my conditions.

The pot is all grits under the thin topcoat of chopped spag. Should be good.

I'm going to add.
Evenwind sent me some seeds for capi (Butler Co., AL) and they got sown outside in Tennessee. Germination took ~ 30 days, and this pic is ~ 45 days.

Curiously, about half of mine came up green, then slowly turned red. Except for that little holdout by the tag, he's still green.

Looks like ya'll have it going on. I look for the green ones but haven't seen any in the wild...yet. Chef, I predict that green one will follow it's brethren in going "red". Evenwind, those are looking good. What mix did you plant them in? ETA: I see they're growing on sphagnum, evenwind, but is that what the substrate is, too?

We've got some stuff going on this week, but hoping that next week I can process some seeds and get ready to send them up the creek a piece to the seed bank...gonna wait till after this heat, though!!! This coming Sunday is predicted to be 97F...add to that a 30% chance of rain so the humidity level will be 60%+....heat index comes to a wonderful 119F heat index. That's better than 129F heat index, though.

I need a cooler rock to crawl up under...

It's my standard 2" seedling pot setup. A layer of LFS at the bottom to keep stuff from dripping out, covered by peat/perlite to about 1/2" from the rim and topped off with 1/4" finely chopped LFS.
