I just viewed this on youtube and it looks a cool way to collect distilled water.

It's a good idea, but its a nonrenewable resource if you use it that way. it only makes a little bit every 3-4 hours.

I tried that but it was cold so I got about a teaspoon over one night. What does the soil do? Was it to show how it cleans the water?

I think that this one is better and will be faster in producing distilled water.

If it's not sunny, you can use an aquarium heater inside to make evaporation faster.
