Hey all. I picked up a couple of ventratas several weeks ago and they seem to have finally settled in. They're both popping a pitcher each, but don't seem to have lids. There's just a small opening at the top of the pitcher. Is this normal for ventratas?

That happens sometimes due to sudden change of humidity. As your plants continue to acclimate, they will start growing proper pitchers.

They were likely greenhouse plants so were used to a higher rH than we have in AZ. I did try acclimating them using bags and introducing lower humidity over a few weeks. They struggled a bit but finally started making pitchers. Thanks for the insights.

Follow-up on the ventratas. I did some research on pitcher oddities and found that a few people had seen similar growth and had trimmed off the top of the pitcher to allow feeding. I tried this and squirted about 1cc water into the opening along with a couple of small bugs. Two weeks later they seem to be fine, no rot or crispy pitchers. Some new pitchers are on the way, hopefully they'll be more normal now that the plants have gotten used to the rH change.
