I'll keep that in mind! Although I actually don't know if what I bought counts as "live" sphagnum. It was a dried block of it that I just re-hydrated, so I would assume its dead and not "live", though I've heard stories of dead sphagnum reviving itself haha

Died sphagnum and live sphagnum are two different things. You are fine using dried sphagnum.
