Hey everyone,

My ceph lost all of its pitchers pretty quickly and it newest pitcher which is still growing has also started turning brown/dark blue a couple weeks later. Any idea what's happening? I know these are rot symptoms, but I only water after the top layer of dead sphagnum is completely dry so I doubt rot is the problem. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I want to be sure. Thanks for any help in advance!

Idk. It looks like lfsm, perlite, and something else.

That could definitely be the problem then, lfs stays much wetter when cephs really need/do best in a sandy, well-draining soil. I don’t remember exactly what I used for mine, but I’m sure it was heavy on sand and/or perlite with a top layer of gravel from my creek out back.

Ok, maybe I'll try repotting it. I know they get stressed out from repots. Is there a way to reduce the amount of stress?

No idea, I'm not all that well versed in cephs. I know mine came bare-root and didn't have near as much of a fit as I was led to believe, but that may well have just been an exception. Hopefully someone who's grown them for longer will chime in.

I’m using a chunky soil mix of peat, pumice, pool sand, coco fiber and perlite, also made sure the pots are a bit elevated so theres airflow at bottom. Keeping it on dry end. Its under 12 h led into the night. The small eden black is growing well in it.

Oops, didn’t read through the rest of the thread. I’ve had terrible luck with cephs in a LFSM/perlite media long-term, and have correspondingly switched the majority of my specimens to a very sandy/peaty media.

Ok, I'll definitely repot into a more sandy mix with peat. I can get pics tomorrow I think, but it's too dark and my moms phone has the best camera and she's probably sleeping by now. Thanks
