i planted some VFT seeds around a month ago, and i haven't gotten a single sprout. i used peat moss and perlite, and always kept the pot moist. what went wrong? is Matt's seeds bad or something? Ive received a product full of babies so i know hes a good seller.

From my limited experience temperature and humidity are the most important considerations. A seed heating pad and 100% humidity helps speed germination so put a clear cover on the pot and add some heat, after they sprout, you need to add a light.

VFT seeds are more typically going to sprout in the four to eight week range, even up to six months if the conditions are not optimal. So you may need to practice that patience we already talked about and give them more time. If there is anything outside of normal; temperature, light, moisture (too little OR too much), media, age of the seed, etc., they can be delayed.
Breathe young Grasshopper, it's not going to happen overnight. Nor will it typically happen in around 30 overnights.

How did you plant them, sans? Surface sowing only, no covering over with anything. But, yes, if it has been a tad cool it could still take a week or two. Be ready for a long wait once they do germinate...two years to young maturity, roughly.

It does sound like they are goners. If they are covered, they won't sprout. In a last ditch effort, you could try removing the top layer from the pot and spread it thinly on another pot. It probably won't work, but it might be worth a try.

I’d hold off on tossing them right away, give em another month if you can. Most of my seedlings began to emerge after four weeks and many took quite a while longer. How much did media did you cover them in? Plenty of sources recommend a light dusting of peat atop the seeds to add a little resistance and help them root securely. I did not do this initially, but did cover half of my pot a few weeks after sewing to see what difference it makes. Definitely overdid the “dusting” and plants still emerged from the darkness. Just my two cents.

I only put a milimeter of dirt over it, because they were so small

You don’t have anything to lose by letting them sit there another couple of weeks.

Here’s a photo of mine today. Started on 12/11/22. Left side covered with some peat a few weeks later.

With only 1mm of substrate over them, give them a spray from above with rainwater, it may well wash most of the soil off the seed, or at least enough to allow germination.

Cheers
Steve
