A couple of questions. I was wondering what is the best pot size for Adelae? I was assuming I should use a taller pot, but I keep seeing shallow. Is it shallow so that the roots can grow into other pots or is it better for the plant too? And like are we talking like 3 1/2 - 4 inches roundabout? Are we talking about 3.5 wide approximately? I feel like it should be wider for the plant to be able to widen out, but I can’t seem to find wide and shallow either.

I think I got the rest ok. Peat/perl 50/50. Dappled light in a window. High humidity. I need to get a humidifier lol. I feel like I’m forgetting something. But yeah if I got something else wrong just lemme know please.

I’m running low on pots that aren’t like at least 5.5 deep, so I’m probably gonna try to buy more if anyone wants to suggest anything there either.

Oh right I don’t have any terrariums right now either, but I was wondering if Adelae would do well there? (If so would a cephalotus be a good plant to throw in)

I was using 2"x2" black plastic potters for my seed starts and some seedlings until I found the white ones below. I like them because they are sturdier than the black ones and will far outlast them. They have a few sizes to choose from. I know they are a bit pricey but are worth it, IMO. I also use the BangQiao large round and square ones for my larger plants.

I don't think the adelae need a deep pot, unlike other sundews. Mine are in 2 inch pots and are growing like crazy. I also have one growing in a shallow traya of sphagnum and it seems to be happy as well.

Thanks for all the advice. Those pots are fantastic @andynorth. I’ve been looking for a good deal on something that would look like that and honestly I feel like those aren’t even expensive comparatively.

I need to start looking into making a terrarium. Seems like it could be neato. But for now I shall get the pretty pots! :D

poke some holes in your pot, when a root finds light it will grow a plant you can pinch off.

I got these little 3” white pots with humidity domes back in April, 40 for $9.99. I like the domes so I can start seeds and cuttings in these. They aren’t available right now, but I do see other sets of them for about twice as much, maybe because it’s Christmas. I also got these 4” pots without domes in October, and I like them just fine. I have a 3” version of them as well from a different seller that’s no longer available.

Neat @Optique. I honestly wouldn’t have thought to do that thank you :D

Oh @Hedonista are you able to link the sold out ones so I can do some looking? I have tragically low humidity in my house. I’m trying to figure out the best way to boost it for my Neps. They seem to be doing ok with it around like 20-30 degrees, but I feel like they would love it if I could get it up to at least 50 degrees.

I ordered a small humidifier from Temu, but it may be one of the pocket ones that have a really REALLY short USB cord that can’t reach any of my plugs. I already have one of those.

Oops, I forgot to include links. Duh.
Here is the one for the little pots with domes. I’ve seen larger ones with domes, but those have seemed really expensive to me. UNAOIWN 3” Plant Nursery Pots... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CP1X1DTC?re ... b_ap_share Oh, and I see that they come in clear pots. I would not recommend these, as you will have a pot full of algae in no time at all. Also, there are round pots with domes on Amazon, but I’ve purchased the pots and they are flimsy and disposable.

Here’s a link to the 4” pots without domes, also. BTPLASTIK Square Nursery Pots, 4... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D9GWBBFR?re ... b_ap_share

As far as increasing humidity, have you considered getting one of these mini-greenhouses? The ones with the green gridded cover are pretty cheap; I think I got mine for about $18 each from Menards. The ones with clear covers cost more. I prefer the clear, cuz you can see everything in there without having to open the cover. Currently, I have my tropical and sub-tropical CPs in the clear one on the main floor of my house, and the stuff that goes dormant is in the green ones in the basement.

Dang we need a Menards! I wonder if Amazon might ever have them for cheap. I have looked because I definitely want them, but they were expensive iirc. I may have just looked at the wrong dimensions.

I’m getting two shelves that have 5 tiers for Xmas that are a lot like the ones you have. If I can’t find the greenhouse covers for them at good prices I may just do the emergency blanket thing. Was that you or someone else that had that setup?

Either way until I get those I won’t be able to do the greenhouse cover anyway. I will definitely keep my eyes open for sales too. And Temu et al of course :D

Oh I got a pack of clear little pots with humidity domes awhile ago and used them for some smaller VFTs and Nep seeds. I got the 4 inch ones that andy recommended on this thread, so maybe I can find some square domes to fit them. They look just like the ones you sent.

Here’s the Temu ones (very flimsy but fine for what I use them for)

Adelae will spread QUICKLY so it will fill any pot or tray fast. Pots don't have to be deep. Here is an old picture of a tray I had years ago, it was around 2 1/2 - 3" deep"

They do seem expensive on Amazon. I’m pretty sure you could order them from Menards or wherever, though.

The emergency blankets were not me, but seem like a good idea. I’ve loosely brainstormed ideas for making covers myself, like maybe with a big roll of that clear plastic you can buy at Home Depot et al that you use to cover floors and furniture when painting or renovating. I don’t know what it’s called or how much it costs, and it’s not nearly as clear as the actual covers, though. Or if you could get some cheap, clear shower curtain liners and sew them together; that might work. Or maybe just buying covers would be better, cuz then they would come with zippers. Just make sure you can return them. My clear cover, for instance, is just a bit too small to go on the stands that came with green covers. OR, if you have a tarp/shoe/zipper repair place around, you could contact them and ask what it would cost to make custom covers. There is one here that has been fairly cheap when I need a zipper replaced or shoes stretched.

Oh if I could do that shallow I could maybe just put it in an empty container from chicken or something.

I have a couple clear pots still with humidity covers and I may just use one of those too. Since it’s not going under my grow light I feel like clear would probably work ok.

Oh that’s what I used to block off part of my basement for a cold room for dormancy. Iirc it’s just plastic sheeting. Although I admit I’m pretty worried because it doesn’t seem like it gets cold enough. I’m going to try putting a thermometer in there soon. It wouldn’t matter right now it’s positively wonderful at about 50 degrees I think.

But yeah with everything you said it does seem like it’s probably going to be so much to make it that it would probably end up costing as much either way. I can’t look on Amazon atm because my hubby asked me not to lol. I’ll do my price comparison after :D

My basement isn’t getting cold enough either. I’m almost positive my bed/bath on the main floor are much colder (cheap and bizarre 90s addition), and I closed the vents and doors in the upstairs rooms, so those are even colder. May need to move my dormancy-needing plants, as they aren’t cooperating.

Yeah I don’t know if I will get an option B. I think my mom *might* give on the garage timer heater situation if this doesn’t work out, but it’s not a guarantee.

It’s like 100% blocked off, so I’m not sure what the problem is. We have a little window (bigger than itty bitty smaller than teeny tiny) and that’s open, so it does get pretty cold when the temps are low. I was able to go in during the single digits weather last week though and I didn’t feel like it was as cold as it should have been. Pretty freezing cold, but a lot of the time I’m in there without a coat and it just seems nippy.

Oh so I realized there’s a rather important Adelae question I didn’t think to ask before. Since it shoves its roots everywhere to make more plants what do I do if I get a hitchhiker in a pot I don’t want it in? I mean the roots will be connected, so do I just snip the bottom part in half? Otherwise my repotting probably won’t be very successful lol. :D
