I have started by getting a brighter light, I went with the Sansi 36 watt bulb. As of today I have set the lights to turn off at the same time that the sun goes down. The sun sets at 4:50pm in my location, and rises at 6am, which will gradually change, but I will adjust my timer as that happens.Image

I don't grow anything inside that needs a dormancy so i cant really help with the question, but if you have a smart plug and tell your assistant to turn it on and off every day at sunset and sun rise it will automatically adjust for you.

Assistant? Tell me more. My smart plugs have to be manually set.

Well i use Alexa, you give the plug a name in settings. My aquarium light is called "fishlight". You can say, Alexa turn "fishlight" on everyday at sunrise, and it will happen.

I forget the name brand of my smart plugs, but i set there app up on my phone, set the plug up on the app. Then linked the account on the app to Alexa app and all the plugs can be controlled.

Oh, that’s cool. I don’t have Alexa. My smart plugs are govee brand, which is compatible with it, though.

My Tuya smart plugs along with the free Smart Life app allow me to set the plug to turn on automatically at sunrise and off at sunset. So thats what I do.

I have the app notify me so if it didn't turn on or off I would know about it.

I have so many smart plugs, 6 Wyze plugs and they have the smart scheduling in the app. I don’t use them for my lights, I stick to the old fashioned manual timers, they don’t have issues with pairing and unpairing, I just set the time and go. I use my smart plugs for my room lights, my fans and all. I will never trust newer technology due to the fact that I have seen these plugs and many others randomly go into pairing mode, it’s a major inconvenience and I wouldn’t trust something like that to keep a consistent schedule for my plants.

I have never had that issue with tuya plugs. Just had it with a single light bulb.

Still, I don’t use newer technology, I would much rather have fewer bugs than have an issue that does affect most smart plugs. I get the convenience with power outages and all, but I have had more smart plugs go out on me and burn a bigger hole in my wallet than my 12 year old manual timer. GE holds up to their quality, I’ve only ran into a couple issues with some of their fridges, I had a deep freezer that was 30 years old from them, and legend has it, that thing is still running.

I don’t like how most newer products have a bunch of super fancy features while they don’t last near as long as most simple appliances. Whirlpool has also made a large dent in their brand, constant part recalls and poor customer service.

But that’s my opinion, there are many others that have fewer issues with that matter, why? I don’t know.
