Can you re-use old soil by mixing it in with new soil to revitalise it? How do you know when soil is old?

You can reuse it by mixing with fresh soil. You can tell peat is old when it changes from a brown course texture to a black, sticky one. Also, the soil will start to have a sulphur smell to it.
