I use pool filter (silica) sand for many of my mixes, 0.8-1.2mm tends to work best for me! That looks good, if not a bit fine. Maybe keep an eye out for compaction

I used this sand in the past, before my collection ballooned in size:
2 Gallons (24 Pounds) Coarse Sand for Bonsai Tree, Cactus / Succulent, & Carnivorous Plant Soil Mix
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CEQW254
It worked well.

I would think it's a bit fine, but they don't give any information on the grain size.

Is that too coarse?

Not coarse at all, it's probably as fine as you would want to go at half a mm.

Did you get the sand? I'm trying to decide what to get. I've looked everywhere for "silica" sand in a coarse grade but haven't found anything. I even contacted US Silica that has a plant somewhat close to me but they said they only mine fine silica there.
I'm thinking of going the pool filter sand route.

Looks to be really good! I'd use it but I found something cheaper at home depot:

@thepitchergrower says it's pure silica but it seems like each bag is inconsistent according to some of the reviews. If you want to be 100% sure, I'd get the silica sand that I found on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/Palmetto-Poolfil ... 192&sr=8-4. But you can also go to home depot and see the product for yourself and it's a lot cheaper. I want to go to home depot to check out that sand and see if it's worth the price.
