Should I get the SunShine Peat Moss or the Premier Peat moss? I'm going to Home Depot today and Lowes Monday. My sand is coming in Monday and I want to repot some of my Sarracenia. Which one is higher quality/less debris? Should I include perlite in my mix or just sand? Thanks!

After reading a good bit and asking around I found that Sunshine was a good bit better quality than Premier. I went to my "local" Home Depot (~65 miles away) to get some Sunshine Peat Moss as they stated online that they had it in stock. When I got there all that they had was Premier. I walked out without any as I already had bale of some "Greenworks" from Tractor Supply (I definitely don't recommend Greenworks...very, very trashy...lots of stems, twigs, fibrous wads of "something", etc.,). I think Premier would probably be better than Greenworks, though. Maybe they will indeed have Sunshine for you. Best wishes.

Premier was my first bale and while not perfect it's still far and away better than the Greenworks stuff. I'd say mine probably had about a third to half the trash in it iirc, though that probably varies bale-to-bale. I noticed the same thing though about Home Depot, mine had Sunshine listed online too but only had Premier in-store. Not that I really cared since the Premier was still a decent quality brand from what I'd read, but just thought it was interesting.

I already had plenty of the Greenworks so I didn't want to get another bale of mediocre peat moss so I passed on the Premier. Later on I did have some "no buyer"'s remorse when I started working again with the Greenworks...the Premier *has* to be better than the Greenworks!!! But, though there's a lot of trash in the Greenworks, I don't think mine had as much trash in it as @NightRaider had in his...and that's the thing, bales can vary from batch to batch. If it was me (this time), if they have the Premier instead of the stated SunShine I'd go ahead and grab the Premier. Best wishes!

I too use the Premier brand. It does carry quite a bit of debris, I spend so time picking it all out of there which can be time consuming. I have also wondered about the quality of the Sunshine brand. Would be great if someone who uses it could shed some light on there experience with it. :D

Depending on where you are located you may have to take what you can get. I found one (1) bale of Sunshine peat moss within a 75-mile radius of my house. :|

Highest quality peat I've ever received, and for the price too! Less than 15 dollars for about 25 gallons/3Cubic Feet or 85L. The pictures are kinda bad but there's not really any debris i could find.

Looks like you got a good bale. The sunshine bale I got had a decent amount of twigs, wood chips and other weird stuff.

Same here! They really compacted mine in there.

I've used Premier; way too many sticks/bark/junk in it. I haven't seen the Sunshine peat moss around here, but I managed to find Black Gold peat moss at Ace Hardware (they're both SunGro products). There was very little debris in it. I just finished a bag of Pro-Mix peat moss, not particularly thrilled with it.

I'm still trying to get my hands on a bale of white/blond peat. None of my local stores carry it, and they say I'd have to buy a whole pallet (I don't need that much peat moss at one time). There is a good explanation of the different grades of peat here.
