I'll just need to rinse away any minerals left behind by the tap with distilled water.

Thanks for all the advice. Do you have any pictures of what your sand looks like when it's rinsed?

This is my soil for my pygmies. Does this look good? I added a tiny bit of perlite (so it doesn’t get very compact).

Problem with that sand is that sometimes the particles are large, sometimes they are small... It varies from bag to bag.

I actually sift it if there are very large particles. To me, what TrapsAndDews has seems fine.

seems fine. Mine had 4 mm particles. A bit too large for my liking..

If the bits are too big, the roots may not get a good grip on the soil.

I would recommend a sift if possible but let us know how it goes.

The sand isn't really that big. The soil is 4 parts peat, 3 parts sand, and (about) 1 part perlite.

It really depends on the bag. One bag I got had basically pea gravel in it. Not great for CPs...

At least the sand is smaller than perlite. (is that the reason to use sand instead of perlite for pygmies)

Beats me. Some growers just like sand and peat while other like perlite and peat.

When I'm rinsing the sand, do I slowly pour out the water? Because last time, I would fill up the bucket with a nozzle and then quickly dump out the water (taking along the smaller particles), and repeating the process 10-20 times.

The whole point of rinsing it is to get rid of the dust.
