Picked up this rocket farms sarracenia from trader joes. Someone said it may be purpurea. Thoughts?

Definitely got purpurea in it but it looks like a purp hybrid to me.

Could be Sarracenia 'Maroon' (purpurea x rubra) that hasn't colored up due to being in a greenhouse.

I got one of these at Trader Joe's today. The package says to give it indirect light and water when the pot gets very dry. I've never grown a Purp hybrid, do they have light/watering requirements that are different from other Sarrs?

Do the complete opposite of the directions and the plant will live. The directions are completely wrong.

I think that was written by AI....at least whoever decided on that being the instructions on the box definitely had artificial intelligence!

It looks a lot like S. maroon but light starved. If it is, then it’s a hybrid purpurea x rubra. They grow nice clumps of red pitchers when grown in full direct sun and given a lot of distilled water. Mine is still small but it looks pretty.

Yep, that's the plan, thank you.
I think the instructions must be a marketing ploy. Sell the plant, tell the customer how to kill it, then sell them another one. I hate to sound cynical, but every Death Cube or other CP package I've seen has had, at best, marginally correct care info, and some seem designed to kill the plant as soon as possible.

You would like to be charitable and think it's ignorance as to why they give out the wrong information, but as plantsmen, they should know and to spend money on having labels printed up, you'd have thought that they would fact-check it first. After all, it's not difficult to find the information in these days of electronic excess.

Sad to see plants sold as novelties. They always die quickly because they just aren't marketed to last. If they did, how would they get you to buy a replacement? They're meant to sell fast and be enjoyable until you grow bored, at which point who cares if they die? Then you see another "cool plant" and the cycle resets.

I couldn't resist going back to get another one. The first one I got is enjoying the sunshine and coloring up nicely. Here's a pic of the second one, I'm amazed that the grower was able cram the plant into that tiny shipping container. This one has some nice veining in the pitchers.

Slip-pot that little sucker into a much bigger pot and watch it go wild this summer!

Yep, I'm picking up the pots tomorrow. Both of the Trader Joe's plants have lots of roots coming out of those tiny pots.
