Does this look healthy? Ties to one of my other recent posts. I think I got some caterpillar damage although there aren't any now that I can find, but I did see one a couple weeks back. Thanks y'all, for keeping me sane.

Looks healthy, but does it feel healthy? It should be very firm to hard. If it's spongy or soft, you've got problems. Ship it to me and I'll find out. However, I'll be up front, I'll just say it was bad, and tell you I tossed it.

I don't have a great reference for the firmness. If it starts to look like it has problems is it too late and just done, it is there a chance of saving it? Should I just look for it to not produce any pitchers as a sign. Chef if you would like a piece I'd be happy to send one, your contributions on the site are above and beyond. It's a piece of S. readii green I got from Optique.

The problem is, it's almost impossible to tell from a pic unless you've cut into the rhizome. If you're unsure about the feel of it, slice into it with a clean knife. The interior of the rhizome should be white, maybe slightly off white. If it's brown, it has rot, and you should cut all of the rot off until you get to white.

It looks like it's already producing pitchers. Small starts, but still starts.

If it is soft, blast it with a the garden hose to remove anything that will come off and plant it.

Optique, they looked great when I got them and all had flower stalls just like that. This is some Florida pest that made it's new home and screwed things up. I'll get them bounced back.
