Hello everyone!

I was just wondering if any perlite I could pick up in a garden center would be carnivore-safe, or if there are specific brands I should avoid?

Avoid Miracle Gro. Vigaro or Viagrow are both available from Home Depot and are fine.

Speaking of perlite safety: wearing a dust mask when your pour the stuff is a good idea. Your lungs will not be happy if you inhale the dust.

Also avoid Miracle Gro Peat Moss too. I made the mistake of buying a bag once without reading the ingredients. It is fortified with all sorts of nutrients that would be unhealthy to CPs.

For use with carnivorous plants, I also rinse mine with tap water 2x and then distilled water once personally. I think I read on the international carnivorous plant society website that perlite can be salty.

+1 on wearing a face mask when working with perlite!

ill always soak/rinse mine in distilled at least 3 times because i am always full of anxiety re: excess minerals or salt B)
