Sowed the Nepenthes cross on 9/1, noticed first two sprouted today, 10/15. So still some viability apparently... A few of the seeds mildewed so I was starting to wonder.

Meanwhile, the U. bisquamata/U. subulata mix sown on the same day is very definitely actually (and a bit sadly) a Drosera of an unknown type not requiring stratification.

Give the Utric seeds some time, they're slow to show signs above ground. As to the sundew seedlings, they likely didn't come from the bis/sub mix.
I sowed some of the original seeds and got a bed of Utrics, and, when I harvested the seeds, I cut their little stalks and put them in their own little envelope to dry. No other seeds should have been able to sneak in.
Now, no process is infallible, but I'm highly confident that, if they came from my plants, they were just Utric seeds.

I suspect it was just an accidental mixup (maybe someone else got the Utric seeds and I got the sundew seeds they were expecting). I haven't let any of my sundews go to seed and these were sown in freshly prepared and microwaved media anyway, so either they were somehow in the peat I got from Lowe's and survived microwaving and somehow didn't germinate other times I prepared media from the bag, or they came from the Utric seed packet. Oh well, stuff happens! I'll just have to keep an eye out for more Utrics to find their way to the seed back some day. :)

I got a couple little ones growing from (I believe) mid July. I got them and iirc I sowed about a week later. I’m hoping that I will get some germination from the seeds I got afterwards too, but I’m quite excited to have these. I hadn’t tried planting seeds yet so I didn’t realize that I should have ground up the LFSM more to avoid pockets. I did do that partially. Anyhow from what I can tell I have 5 seedlings :D

Ok so I seem to have started growing more than the neps lol. I have what I guess is star moss everywhere. I’m not sure how I got it, but it’s pretty.

I guess that’s what is in my lfsm too maybe, but also one of my cups looks like it got blood on it or something. A lot of the lfsm is looks red. Should I be worried? Not sure if it’s ok to keep seedlings here?

It’s much lighter in the picture but I can’t seem to get it brighter.

It seems that you have multiple varieties of sphagnum moss. Sphagnum moss comes in many colors, but I believe most varieties are safe for cp plants. I also have some red moss in my lfsm.

That’s really interesting! And weird tbh because I’m pretty sure that the other few cups that have Nep seedlings I used the same LFSM, but the only color I’ve seen there is a teeny bit of green.

So can I grow it enough to harvest it eventually and use it with some of my plants? And I’m assuming maybe the star moss too? I really like the look of these for top dressing :D

I'm pretty sure those are nep seedlings. After the cotyledons, the first leaves they put out produce pitchers. It's kind of ironic in that I struggle to get mature plants to pitcher but seedlings do it right off of the bat.

Oh my apologies lol, no the circled bits are nep seedlings, but the moss around them has really strong red tones. They aren’t really concentrated I don’t think to circle any of it, but it also is showing up a LOT less strongly in the pics. It kinda looks like if you accidentally cut yourself over the lfsm and then the red got dispersed by moisture or something. I actually thought that something like that had somehow happened when my mom was caring for them in October, but it didn’t.

I went back and tried to circle it. I’m hoping if you zoom in you can see it.

Aw I’m hoping for it to grow. And can I get the other green ones that look like what someone else called star moss to grow?

If this stuff will grow and you grow it I’d be curious to know the type of care you use. I think it’s probably better if I post this as its own thread so I don’t fill this with something that is not relevant,l but I’m not sure where to ask.

It might also help to get more info from people who grow it differently.

Update. Quite a few sprouts at this point. Pretty slow growing--many don't even have their first true leaf yet. I unbagged them yesterday.
