My vft makes super small leaves and idk why, they're not coming from the middle like the big ones

Sounds like the rhizome is simply growing, putting off new plants. A picture is worth a thousand words.

A picture would be helpful. From your words, I'm guessing that the rhizome is growing, and putting out new offshoots, like ChefDean said above.

Next spring. Let it wake up from dormancy, grow a few leaves, then think about uprooting it.
