Hey friends,

I thought I'd ask about this because I'm not sure if something is up or not. This adult cape sundew, "Lotus Eater", seems to be struggling with creating new leaves, but it's possible starting a flower (or maybe it is new leaves) and it has a couple of leaves with some goo. It also has 2 gemmae starting off.

I'm mainly just confused and concerned. My new D. capensis x D. spatulata is doing great after shipping with some humidity, but this one doesn't seem to be having a great time.

Capes don't form gemmae. That is a resting bud because the plant is stressed. Give it consistent conditions, not too wet, and not too intense of light.

One of my Capes is doing the same thing. It's near the end of a blooming cycle and it got hit with thrips so it's pretty stressed out. I'm glad I saw this thread as I was becoming concerned, but this looks to be a normal "suspended animation" reaction due to adverse conditions.

My Cape finally came out of the "resting bud" state, and immediately started putting up another flower stalk. I trimmed it off, the plant is recovering but still pretty stressed from its previous flower cycle and the thrips infestation.
