Got a nice little surprise today. Noticed that my d. capillaris ‘Emerald’s Envy’ are putting out flower stalks! Guess it’s about time to read up on harvesting seeds. Image

Is something wrong here? I never saw a full bloom and the older flower buds appear to be dry. Not what I expecting from my reading.

Many times, they will self pollinate and you won't see the flower. I rarely see the flowers of my Drosera intermedia plants, but they produce a boatload of seed.

Thanks Panman, that’s reassuring. So they can self pollinate without ever opening fully and just go right into seed pod production?

They do open, but it may only be for a few minutes. Other sundews do require some additional help to get pollinated. Try looking for the open flowers shortly after they get the first sun for the day.

Gotcha. Thanks again! I have a decent “breeze” in the tent from the fans. My peppers and things haven’t had a problem self pollinating but I always see those flowers. Didn’t realize these would have such a brief bloom. I can definitely see the stalks quivering, and I’m constantly moving and jostling things around the tent, so I’d be surprised if they needed much more help pollinating. With that being said, I’m guessing I’ll need to protect them from the air turbulence if I want to collect seed? I’ve heard that even a gnat fart can cause the pods to burst.
