October 2022 Photo Contest – Trick or Treat

It’s October and you know what that means … no, not pumpkin spice brake pads … Halloween! I have to be honest, it is the prize this month that inspired me for the Halloween theme. What we want to see this month, is the biggest treat that you have gotten from your carnivorous plants this year. It may be a new plant that you got. Or you might share a photo of a plant that just exploded in growth. Or maybe it is a particularly spectacular trap that grew. Any plant, any species, any photo!

Here are the rules:
1. You can share only pictures you took personally.
2. You can submit only 1 photo for this contest.
3. Pictures shared in previous contests are not eligible.
4. Minimally edited photos only. No effects, or filters. Cropping is okay.
5. The winner will be the entry with the highest number of thumbs up (likes) votes.
6. Only votes from members with at least 5 posts will count.
7. This contest is open internationally, although there will be an alternate prize for international winners.

And what is this amazing prize that I hinted at earlier? It is none other than an 'African Werewolf' Venus Flytrap from @Matt and Leah with The Flytrap Store.

From the Flytrap Store website:
"African Werewolf" is a new cultivar, released summer of 2022, originating from South Africa. It is distinct from the Werewolf clone from Europe and is more reminiscent of 'Dracula' but is a GIANT flytrap with excellent vigor! "African Werewolf" was selected by Pan's Carnivores in South Africa for its amazing vigor, large traps, and short teeth. While it is capable of getting good coloration, it tends to focus on getting LARGE and growing large traps! It is an awesome flytrap and we at FlytrapStore.com are excited to be the first people in the US to make this cultivar widely available!
So, all you hobgoblins, put on your mask, ring the doorbell, and show us your favorite treat.

Hard choice. It was this or the first wavy leaves of N. undulatifolia. But I suppose I'll go with this, what will soon (hopefully) become my first Heliamphora flower.

I got this from a fellow forum member who hasn't been active recently. When I got it, all but one of the pitchers died back. It came back with a vengeance and now looks spectacular. Now I understand why Tattnall is such a sought after purpurea!

This G16 from FTS. It died back to nothing on top right after I got it this spring and came back spectacularly. A nice treat during a not so nice growing season for me this year.
