Just received this Hamata cutting, it started budding but no roots yet. I've always trimmed part of the leaf off, would it still be beneficial to do so? Any other tips appreciated!

I don't see why that would help. You are simply removing part of the plant that can be used for photosynthesis, which will likely hurt the plant more than help.

Only trim the leaves if the size of the leaves seems large to the amount of stem. The idea is to reduce the amount of water the plant loses through it's leaves. The trade-off is that cutting the leaf also reduces photosynthesis. With the cutting in the picture, I would leave it as is and put it in a plastic bag in indirect light.
