For a while I wondered what my Mystery Nep was ever since I bought it in December of last year. I asked here did anyone know what it could be but even you guys weren't too sure. We'll, these pitchers have mostly matured and is starting to get their coloring in. I'm now happy to announce that my Mystery Nep is actually a Nep Alata!!! :D

When I got it, it was never labeled as a Ventrata or Alata. I'm going by how different is growing from My first Ventrata as well as the basal offshoot I cut from it earlier this year. And with the pitchers now getting it's mature coloring it does look like a young alata plant.

I hope not but I'm most certain it's an alata. I bought it from Bug Biting Plants at my local Lowes. They never fully labeled it so I could double check by contacting them.

BBP's labels are completely unreliable and shouldn't be used to ID anyway. They had my largest Ventrata labeled as Ventricosa when I bought it. It's almost definitely Ventrata.

I got one from them labeled as ventricosa which is most likely a sanguinea. So now it is labeled as Nepenthes aff. sanguinea

Hate to "pop your bubble " but it doesn't matter how certain you are. Unless you can get a definitive ID from the seller, it is now and forever shall be a NoID. To label it otherwise would be unethical.

You misunderstood, I think. While he suspects his plant might actually be a sanguinea, Panman is not identifying it as such. If he had, he would have labeled it as Nep. sanguinea. Instead he said he has labeled it as Nep aff sanguinea. The "aff" indicates he believes the plant has an "affinity to" or may be related to" sanguinea. (It could, for instance, be a hybrid with a strong resemblance to sanguinea.) In an attempt to avoid confusion, it might be better/safer for that plant to be labeled as Nep. NoID aff. sanguinea.
