Back in December we moved into a new house, and my collection moved with me. The winter months were spent getting the inside plants situated and my water system up and running. All of this among unpacking, building a barn, caring for horses, and that thing that truly gets in the way of life, work.

After a few false starts to Spring, followed by sudden freezes, I think the outside collection is ready for dewintering. I've set up the growing tables and have moved the smaller growing plants to their new location. They get a bit warmer with the airflow underneath the pots, but my eyesight isn't good enough to inspect them without getting really close, and I'm not crawling around on the ground.

I've still got a few tasks left. I need to make another table out of recycled pallets, and level out the water troughs for my large sarrs. Things are looking pretty good, and I have a riot of flowers. I probably won't be doing many crosses of sarrs this year, but I am going to produce some pure species seed and some species selfed.

And yes, my horse is swaybacked. He's 28 and a nervous wreck after moving. Once he settles down, I'll start working with him again and improve that top line. The sway won't be completely gone, but it will get better.

You are still around the ATL area? Your plants seem to be so far ahead of mine to be just down I-85?

The same way as my pot belly, exercise. Putting some muscle on the back will raise it up. He has super high withers (the part where the back of the neck meets the body) so he will always look more swaybacked than he is.

Glad everybody’s getting settled in!!! Your plants are looking great!!! I know you’ve put in a lot of work. Looks like your horse is enjoying the grazing, too! What’s its name? What’s its personality?

His name is Falcon and he is a crotchety old guy with anxiety issues. That's why I relate so well with him. :D in his day, he was a quite a jumper and was very well trained. Now he and I walk around and trot some. He still loves jumping but we only let him do that when he is on a line with nobody riding. The move has been hard on him because he lost most of his herd and ended up in a new place. Tonight he was much more relaxed so I think he is settling in.

Good to hear he’s relaxing a bit. So he does have some other horses running with him?

“Crotchety old guy with anxiety issues”… yeah, I can relate to that, too! :| It sounds like he’s maybe an old friend…it’s amazing how well man and animal can get to know each other over time. He looks like he’s well taken care of, too! ;)
