By far the worst year I’ve ever had growing flytraps, the heat stress they are getting is horrible and it’s hard to keep track of watering sometimes !! Just a small rant but this is the main reason I’ve been so inactive lately.. as you can see, I don’t have many plants anymore

My traps are in the same boat as yours. This heat is horrible.

For sure man, most of my plants died to the freezing temps this winter and then the rest are slowly but surely dying to the randomized extreme heatwaves/rain.

Probably not gonna be active as much here until I nurture mine back to good health and restart what i had before through seeds.

Relatable in the worst possible way, I lost several Sarracenia to a cold snap a year or two back, as well as some flytraps. A few came back, but were small and pathetic. The heat now may well do them in, poor things.

I'm in South Carolina and have had alot of days in the upper 90s up to 100 F. Definitely keeps you on your feet making sure they have water. It goes away so quick.

So far, my plants seem to be surviving this heat just fine. We are in the high 80s with 70+% humidity. Me, on the other hand, is absolutely melting every time I go outside.

You and me both, Georgia bro haha. My VFTs were doing really badly when they were in black pots earlier this summer, but after I shifted them to white pots they've really taken off.

Meanwhile I'm dying.

The next 10 days in eastern North Carolina are going to be toasty: Factor in the humidity, and it'll feel like another 7-10°F warmer. Sitting outside for 1.5 hours every other day to water my plants will be an ordeal.

Try putting some light shade cloth over top of them until the temps go back down again maybe? I know Maggie Chen reccommends that in one of her videos.

I went the other direction and built an automated watering table which just waters the plants at 1pm ET each day. They stay hydrated and relatively cool. Seems to be working well!

Last year the PNW heat wave really did a number on my flytraps. I noticed plants in a sphagnum/perlite mix seemed to have a much harder time than those in a peat-based media. Luckily, this year has been relatively cool in eastern Washington, but I’m noticing that some of the sphagnum mix flytraps are still looking a little ratty this July.

This is relatable to me too. Half day off my watering schedule and I roasted my dreamsicle amongst other things I was going to sell off at a craft fair. Oops. Ive never had this kind of plant death either. You guys are definitely not alone

Strange, all of mine are doing fine. I haven’t seen them acting any differently in the heat. I sometimes forget to water my flytraps, but they’re still doing fine. It could be because I’m using white styrofoam cups.
