I was looking for media for this particularly odd plant and from the way it sounds people grow them in terracotta which tells me they are more mineral tolerant. Also seems to have a more porous kind of mix similar to pinguicula. What I'm wondering is could you use a fired clay such as turface as an ingredient for them? I'd consider akadama but akadama breaks down and becomes anaerobic within a couple years and from the way they talk, it sounds like droso have roots kind of like byblis. I intend to grow mine outside here since the temp range sounds ideal for it.

I use a mix of 80-90% draining media like Perlite, quartz gravel, pebbles, and 10-20% peatmoss.

I start seeds in a Peat-Pot with a 1/4 inch layer of pure peatmoss on top, pushing the seed into the peat.
I delicately top water the peatmoss around the roots after germination.

When the plants are 2-3 inches tall, I plant the Peat-Pot into a 10 inch pot and fill it with the 10/90 mix.
The top of the Peat-Pot is level with the top of the media but still visible.
Over Winter, in my basement, I top water the Peat-Pot with about 1 Tablespoon (15 mL) applied with an eyedropper.
Spring, Summer, and Autumn, when the plant is outside, I give it 2 Tablespoons; I apply it the same way from the top with an eyedropper or Turkey Baster.

The plant is sitting where it can be rained on.
The media is so well draining that I have not had any losses due to root rot.

When they flower, I let the bees take care of pollinating; I don't hand-pollinate.

That's I grow my Drosophyllums.
Your mileage may vary.
Sorry if I got too long-winded.

Not at all man! I appreciate the thoroughness with it. I may have to alter it a bit because FL can dry pots out in a day but that gives me a lot of info to work with. Thank you!

I just have one last question, how do you typically go about sowing your seeds? How do you (if you do) scarify the seeds? Or do you use a mixture of GA3?

I scarify the fat rounded end of the seed, not the pointy end.
I use a 10x Triplett Magnifying Glass and a utility knife to scrape a little bit of the hard black seed coat.
I scrape until I see the inner part of the seed.
It has a shiny finish as opposed to the rough flat finish of the seed coat.
I use a surgical hemostat but work over a soup bowl in case the seed pops loose; they often try to escape.
After scarification, I soak the seeds in water for 12 hours.
After soaking, I push the seed down into the 1/4 inch top dressing of moist Peatmoss.
Keep it moist and you should see germination in 2-4 weeks.
