Is it normal for my DC XL to have a these dark red spots on it?

Funny, my plant is pefectly healthy, and these spots look different.

If those spots continue, would that be proof that they’re caused by a virus?

I have the same spots on my SD Draco (arrived from FTS all variegated and such) although it is not a commonly known trait for the cultivar. It may be genetic but your plant likely has variegation virus as others have explained.

Of course. It’s just a coloration variation and your plant will still be healthy.

That would be cool if the plant keeps those spots. Then you could have a variegated DCXL.
