Hey everyone,

I know there is an ampullaria labeled as "Papua Intermediate". Is this an amp that can grow in intermediate conditions? If it isn't, are there other amps that will grow in intermediate temps?

Very doubtful it can survive intermediate conditions long term, as I understand it, it is quite fond of hot and steamy. As to your second question, according to the all-knowing interweb, some varieties of amp live up to 2000 m or so, so I would imagine, if you could find one, it should be very possible.

Yeah, I've been looking for an intermediate growing amp for a while and I can't find one. I asked specifically about this plant because Brad from Brad's Greenhouse in Canada said he grows it intermediate to highland in the description for the plant.

If you have intermediate condition and good humidity, I would put the amp on a seedling heat mat with a thermostat and monitor pot temp.

Woah i just got an ampullaria for 2$ recently, cute little pitchers. I put it in full sun and 1 inch of water at the bottom. So far so good. acclimated it for like 3 days outside full shade.

ah um, i live in Indonesia so there are plenty of tropical pitchers here hence the cheaper price, though that particular price is still considered very cheap here.

I haven't had much luck finding an intermediate ampullaria either, which is strange since you would think it would be a decent seller. If Brad is known for being reliable and says he grows it colder than a lowlander, and you can find one at a price you are willing to pay, I say jump on it. Could be opportunity is knocking, and after all, experimenting is fun.

Ok, maybe I'll give it a go. Should I wait to get this clone of amp when I can grow it outside in more lowland-warm intermediate? I could get it now but it would be in 70-72 daytime temps and 62-66 nighttime temps now that it's getting colder outside.

I mean sure, go for it. All you'd have to do is put it near a hot source and slowly acclimate to your conditions.

I have a BM growing in intermediate, although it stopped producing pitchers. It was doing really well at 85 degrees though.

I don't really have a heat source I can put it near and have light and high humidity. I might just have to wait until summer but idk.

Ok, I'll keep that in mind. If your plant (which has ventricosa in the parentage) is not growing pitchers, mine probably won't either. We'll see.
