I am starting to question if my cape sundews are some other species or hybrid. First they don’t like a lot of direct sunlight like I have heard. They can handle probably 3 hours of direct sun and if they get to much the turn red, grow smaller leaves with dried tentacles even though the humidity is 40-80%. The other thing is that even though this winter was unusually warm for the most part, it had some days that got around 0°C. The plants still kept growing but a bit slower. But the last week or more the temperatures were dropping below 0°C ( usually around -2°C or -4°C) and they survived just fine like nothing has happened. They even flowered at November and they still have green stalks and seed pods! Are my sundews just very cold tolerant capensis or something else? I will post pictures tomorrow.

Interesting. My Capes handle 8+ hours of direct AZ summer sun with no complaints, even the smallest ones. I did have to acclimate them for a couple weeks but afterwards they loved the sunshine. Big leaves and lots of dewdrops. I didn't notice excessive reddening. They caught so many bugs that one flowered twice last year. Yes, pics will be great.

Different plants will react differently to conditions. My Capes don't much like summer in Tennessee, so I bring them in when it gets hot. They also don't like winter in Tennessee, about 80% go dormant while the rest die.

The photos are here. Some of them are still flowering. I hope the seeds are still viable.

100% D. capensis. Oftentimes the older, preexisting leaves will look ratty for a couple of weeks or so while the plant is growing a new leaf rosette if moved to a different set of conditions (e.g. more light).
